Hike in the footsteps of the charcoal burners and enjoy the charming hilly landscape of the Napf with its harrows and ditches.

If you hike from Romoos through the widely ramified Napf area, you may suddenly notice smoke rising from between the trees. Don't worry, it's not a forest fire: it's the fumes from the smouldering charcoal kilns. The charcoal burners of Romoos pile up beech, ash and coniferous wood into cone-shaped piles. Then they set them on fire to produce charcoal. For a good two weeks they monitor the charring around the clock - the production of the "black gold" is hard work.
