Distance 17.1 km
The round trip starts in Giswil. On the cycle path you reach Sachseln and then the capital of Obwalden, Sarnen with its Hexen Tower and unique White Book of Sarnen that tells the story of Tell. Above Sarnen sits Landenberg Castle, from which foreign occupiers were ousted long ago.
The quiet road then leads to Wilen, a sleepy hamlet. Soon you reach the beautiful, shady Forstwald forest with its ancient streams where children like to play. These waterways look charming enough when there is little water, but they can become raging torrents during storms. After the Forstwald, it is worth making a detour to Giswil campsite for its playground and bistro.
