Enjoy the third stage of Route 1291: you’ll be negotiating two world-famous passes today plus other highlights along the way. From Andermatt, you pedal through the pristine Urseren valley and through Realp before reaching the Furka pass. This is followed by the Grimsel pass and a long descent to Meiringen at alt. 595 metres. Before you get there, you pass the Aare gorge, which is well worth a detour.

Route:  ca. 70 km | Ascent 1520 hm | Descent 2340 hm

Author’s recommendation

Make the most of the passage over the Furka and Grimsel passes and reflect on the historical past of these routes.

A visit to the Aare gorge offers an impressive natural spectacle – and soothing refreshment on hot summer days.
