Enjoy the seventh and final stage of Route 1291 to the full. From Sursee, it takes you to Beromünster and magnificent St. Michael’s Abbey. From here, head to Heidegg Castle and Winery, enroute to Beinwil in Aargau and back to Hochdorf in Lucerne. Enjoy the Seetal around Lake Baldegg and soak in the scenery. Slowly but surely you begin to sense the increasing urbanisation of your surroundings as you pedal through the conurbation of Lucerne. After Rothenburg and Emmenbrücke, the route takes you back to the starting point of Route 1291, Lucerne railway station. Treat yourself to a chilled drink at one of Lake Lucerne’s waterside bars or an ice cream at one of the city’s many gelaterias.

Route: 60 km | Ascent 920 hm | Descent 960 hm

Author’s recommendation

The Seetal is Lucerne’s valley of castles. Seize this opportunity and visit one or more of these castles while you’re there. From Heidegg Castle, you can survey the Heidegg wine estate, which produces a superb selection of white and red wines as well as other specialities.
