Stans station – Wächselacher – Wirzboden – Huebliegg – Stans
The cantonal capital can be viewed from a number of different angles. This two-hour walk is signposted "Rund um Stans" (around Stans) and takes you through residential neighbourhoods, past pretty farmhouses and to the romantic Hueblimatt vantage point. If it's a Saturday morning, fortify yourself for the walk with a visit to the local "Wuche-Märcht" (weekly market), which is held from late April to early November. Also on Stans village square is the Hotel Restaurant Engel, known for its cordon bleu specialities.
The Wuche-Märcht in Stans has been held every Saturday morning between late April and early November for the past 40 years. It's just the place for finding provisions for the walk.
Starting at Stans railway station, head for Ebene in the Wächselacher area, then enter the Niederdorf quarter and head towards the Länderpark shopping centre. Now aim for Ennetmoserstrasse and, west of Wirzboden, ascend up to Ober Hostatt past the flood protection barriers. You now come to the panoramic section above Stans to Chlostermatt and the Huebliegg: not for nothing are there benches here! Following Huebstrasse, you reach the Heinrich chapel then the Wilerrank. A narrow field path takes you back to the Wächselacher area.
