Turren - Breitenfeld - Turren
Winter Hiking
A unique winter walking experience with views of the Lungern valley basin and as far as the Bernese Alps. Away from the hustle and bustle, the alp road leads gently uphill around the Finsterbüel and to the gloriously situated ancient hut settlement of Breitenfeld.

Thanks to the altitude at which you start and finish at the Turren restaurant (alt. 1550 m), this winter path often offers views above the fog line. After looking down into the Lungern basin, you take the groomed alp road south-west around the Finsterbüel. At Chuematt, the open terrain offers an impressive mountain panorama. The path then climbs steadily and pleasantly to Luegi.
It continues up to Breitenfeld, the highest and furthest point of the tour. The sun-drenched alp of the same name is inviting. In the depths of winter, the alp huts, huddled close together, disappear in the snow almost up to their ridges. Here, on one of Obwalden's largest, most beautiful alp pastures, is where the herdsmen live in summer. The little Maria zum Schnee alp chapel is pretty.
You follow the same groomed path back. Shortly after reaching the tree line, you can see the restaurant and railway station in the distance: your destination.
